Rio Camuy Cave Park
Rio Camuy Cave Park is one of the most extensive network of caves in the world and it's one of the most accessible. Visitors are brought down to the opening of Cueva Clara by tram and are through a well-maintained and paved trail system through the chamber. The tram ride passes through incredibly lush vegetation, tall trees hanging with vines and moss covered rocks.
The main attraction, Cueva Clara, is a 170-foot high chamber with giant stalactites and stalagmites. Visitors wind down the cave's trail viewing the huge rock formations and water pools while the guide discusses the geological surrounds. At the end of the path, the chamber opens up and tourists are looking up from the bottom of a giant sink hole. Nearby water flows down a rock wall. Guests are invited to taste the water from the alleged site of Ponce De Leon's Fountain of Youth. Back inside, visitors can lean over a ledge to see the Rio Camuy rushing by a hundred feet below. This is one of the largest subterranean rivers in the world.
Back on the tram, guests are then brought to Tres Pueblos Sinkhole where they can climb down some stairs to a viewing platform overlooking the 400-foot deep sinkhole. Other attractions at the park include Spiral Sinkhole and Cave. The sinkhole is open to the general public, but the cave to experienced spelunkers only.
